Bob's has Excellent fried chicken and hash browns and anything on the grill is great! Fantastic service as well! Found this great place because of YELP traveling back home to MI. It's a must stop for a great dinner or carry out! Make sure and ask about the B and B bar!

If you like fried chicken you will love Bob's. This is absolutely without a doubt the best fried chicken I have ever tasted in my entire life. Their sides are great as well, but their winner is the chicken. They have amazing catering as in the food and prices. I have had them catered twice at work and once for a family event. Many of my friends and family agree that this is the best chicken they have had as well. The greatest compliment was my 86 year old very picky grandmother who said it was the best food she has ever had. Everyone I had worked with has been very accommodating and has always treated me well. Their ability to provide top notch food at a reasonable price is just amazing. I cannot recommended this highly enough.

Went in on my way to the airport based on a recommendation from my daughter and her fiance. It was more like an order from them because I didn't really have time to stop, but they insisted. So glad they did! I ordered the basics - broasted chicken breast, beans, and cole slaw. All were amazing as was the homemade barbeque sauce. I sat at the counter and was served by Ben who was extremely entertaining in addition to serving me great food. I will definitely go back when in Sioux Falls. Wish I could find a gem like this in Minneapolis.

Went here on Yelp reviews and wasn't disappointed. Broasted chicken was Excellent! Great Triple Berry pie for dessert!. Friendly staff and clientele made wait time go by quickly. Will definitely stop in again when in Sioux Falls.

Seriously some of the juiciest, most perfectly cooked chicken I've ever had. Great crust. Perfectly white. Moist in every bite. Tender. We had the chicken with dinner rolls and pasta salad. Not sure if the pasta salad is bags there, but it was very good. Maybe the best I've had. Even more impressive was that they took our order minutes after closing hours on July 4th.

If you are driving into the Great West via Interstate 90, make a point to EAT AT BOB's; your meal and counter conversations with Ben and Tony will be one of the highlight memories of your trip. We were 24 miles out from Bob's when we realized the diner was scheduled to close just before our estimated arrival. We called to double check the closing time, but instead of telling us their closing time, Ben coolly asked, "How far out are you?" We told him and Ben said not to worry, they would wait for us to arrive before closing up. I won't ruin you having your own unique Bob's experience, but would simply encourage you to sample widely from a rich menu of comfort food and make sure to include hash browns and mac-n-cheese wedges as sides. Much respect for Ben (and son) and Tony making the magic happen behind the counter! Your food and conversation were the highlight of our day's travel. May God continue to bless you and your life's work.

Great little throwback place with just a few counter seats. We met and got served by Bob himself! Fantastic breakfast sandwiches hit the spot - bacon was cooked to order, English muffins were grilled not toasted, and they gave us a pancake on the house! Oh - and order the chocolate milk (milk comes in a mason jar with a bottle of chocolate syrup to mix the way you like it). Awesome piece of Americana to visit!

Great place to eat. Easy to find. Right off the main road. Will defiantly be making another visit

Driving from Yellowstone back to Cincinnati. For some reason had a craving for Bison. Had the wild west burger they made it protein style sans bun and it was delicious. Just a cool hole in the wall place.

Yup, just had it for the first time and all the reviews are spot on. The chicken is fantastic. We were in town for a few days and tried this place based on yelp reviews. Wow! The store is pretty cool. You squeeze in the front door and there is about 8 old time bar stools at ar wraparound bar. You are right there at the flattop grill. Pretty cool ambiance. Staff was friendly too. The BBQ sauce was very good too. Will eat here again when I am craving chicken.

Stopped here on the way back from visiting Mount Rushmore and was looking for a good, home-cooked breakfast. After checking out reviews we stopped at Bob's. There was a grill outside that Bob had going and boy did it smell good! He was very friendly, as was the lady who cooked our meal. He even spent a few minutes talking to us about our travels and is genuinely interested in his customers, which made us feel welcomed and our experience enjoyable. Mark ordered the omelet with toast and I ordered 2 eggs, toast, and hash browns. Just staring at our food being cooked made me hungrier! They were both good portions and the hash browns are out of this world! It definitely hit the spot and we were very pleased. We'll be back and I'll make sure to order the omelet next time. It was cheesy, filled with ham, onions, and peppers. The ham was delicious! It was a large portion and I was more than happy to help mark finish his omelet hahaha. We'll definitely return if we pass through the town again!

Friendly people with the best broasted chicken, bbq ribs and smoked baked beans. Everything is made to order. It was well worth the extra trip.

Fan-freaking-tastic broasted chicken and fun banter while you wait for your food. We are driving cross country and were looking for something tasty to grab so we could have a picnic at Falls Park. Stopping at Bob's was the best choice we could've made. Ben prepared a great to-go picnic for us and the chicken had us both licking our fingers and wanting more. Highly recommend.

Everything that Bob's makes, is amazing. They are known for their chicken, but I like their breakfast and their burgers. They have some of the best hashbrowns in Sioux Falls and they really understand the artistry of cooking on a flat grill. This flat grill knowledge, lends a lot of authenticity and flavor to the hamburgers too, even though they are not known for them, I recommend Bob's as a place to get a great burger in town.

Last week was my first time eating their takeout, very impressed. The chicken was delicious! They had a huge variety of menu items, which is awesome if you have picky kids.

Best ribs I've had north of Georgia. Counter service and one small table. Charming, friendly with a healthy shot of wry. Terrific chicken under $10, ribs under $20.

  • Sarah L.

Amazing chicken and sides! Went in just before lunch to make a carry out order...I'd advise taking it to go due to very small seating area. Took awhile for food, but very good.

When I saw it from the outside, I hadn't doubts, but once the food started arriving, I knew that there was no question- best food ever. I arrived hungry with my two kids and husband. We each got a different dish and there was a ton of sharing going on--- ribs, pulled pork, Mac n cheese bites, corn fritters, corn on the cob, popcorn chicken, hash browns, fries, cheeseburger,beans... Each item was perfect with one minor exception- the corn on the cob was not as good as I expected, but it is still early in the season and the sweetness just isn't there yet- I should have known better. That said, every other item that came out of the kitchen was perfection. Sauces were a perfect blend of spice and sweet. The meats were perfectly prepared and juicy. The sides were unforgettable. My kids were in heaven at the counter and service was fast with very friendly and engaging folks. They even had a visitor book we all signed. Can't wait to go back for a repeat!

  • Barry S.

Small small small ... fun old school joint ... like an LA drinking bar :) My pork tenderloin sandwich was solid and the cole slaw had a special something in it. Broasted corn was great. Not the kind of place I'd eat at monthly but a fun place to grab comfort food

  • Jesse S.

Prices don't match the website. I just paid $20 for a burger and fries. I don't care how good it is, such a simple meal should never cost this much.

We travelled through Sioux Falls on the way to Dupree, SD for a service trip. It's a five hour drive, so we stopped to get lunch before hitting the road. The staff at Bon's was incredible. Very friendly. And the food was delicious. I had broasted chicken and ribs - the restaurant's specialty. For sides I had baked beans (which had a tasty sweet and tangy bacon sauce), and buttered hash browns. I had an Arnold Palmer that was never ending to wash it all down. Nothing bad to say about this place.

Stopped here for a quick detour in Sioux Falls on the way to Mt. Rushmore. Yelp had me thinking this place was going to be super awesome, considering its 4.5 review, but maybe my expectations were too high. For around $18, my family and I ordered the 8 piece chicken combo which comes with 2 rolls, 2 choices of potatoes (we chose wedges and fries) and a pint of a side (coleslaw in our case). Per another review, I wanted to try the ribs that were apparently delicious. For $10+ for 6 bones, the ribs were a let-down on the flavor front. What saved the ribs was the additional side of BBQ included in our take-out order. That sauce was flavorful and had a nice kick to it. Main letdown, however, was the coleslaw. I felt the slaw had had several sugar packets dumped into the dressing to give it flavor. Way too sweet. Fries were a better choice over the wedges. The highlight of the meal was definitely the broasted (sp?) chicken, which was pretty much fried chicken. Good flavor on the skin, and the meat was very moist as well. I enjoyed dipping the chicken in the barbeque included for our takeout. It was nice, however, that Bob's did supply us with paper plates, utensils, and napkins that we used for our picnic. So in essence, TL;DR: Better than average fried chicken, get a different side other than coleslaw, and skip the ribs. Thanks for the chicken, Bob's, but if I'm in the area, I'm sure I will try something else.

They cooked my burger to order (medium) which not a lot of places will do, and the person working there was friendly and joked around. It was done when I arrived and I picked it up and left. The burger from a purely objective viewpoint was alright.. it was juicy and cooked as ordered however the bun was nothing special and there was no 'flame broiled' taste however I did order it medium.. in my opinion Culver's burgers taste a bit better for the price (but also still use 'fast food' buns) but these are nonetheless good burgers. I will give this place 3.5 stars and round it up to 4 for the service. I may try some other stuff down the road. This was my first visit there based on online reviews. I suggest either fresh buns or toasting the buns with butter like Culver's to improve them.

Sit at the bar for friendly service and comfortable food, this tiny little diner is a local favorite and a great stop for travelers.

  • Dan G.

I really, really liked the boneless ribs. I'm a big bbq guy and I've never seen ribs deboned before. It was a pleasant twist. I also had some of the broasted chicken which seemed fine, but I'm not really a fan of fried chicken so I can't say much more on that topic. The actual place is tiny, less than 10 chairs in total and there is no drive-through. Overall I would happily stop by again if I was ever in the neighborhood.

  • Leigh R.

The chicken, hash browns and baked beans were good. The brisket was a little dry but the sauce helped. Just ok.

  • Susan S.

Great staff, they were super nice and welcoming to us out of town folk. It is not a super nice sit down restaurant, but you get what you pay for. Fair wait time and cheap prices. We got the ribs (Absolutely DELISH, the sauce was a great balance of saucy and sweet), the fried chicken (very moist, good flavor, cooked perfectly), the hamburger (good seasoning, fresh, you see them make it right in front of you), fries (you can never go wrong with good fries), and the baked beans. They tasted okay, but had a peppery taste. There were some flies but not too many. Classic look but limited parking. But the staff made up for all of it. Will stop by again if we ever end up in Sioux Falls!

  • Charles S.

They are hospitable, the people are friendly, and the food matches their reputation. A great place to make a pit stop while roadtripping for sure. Also while yelp rates them as one dollar sign, they border on two dollar signs.

  • James O.

You have got to be kidding me. Chef MIC is the busiest cook here. The rib meat was portioned and microwaved in plastic bags. It was dry and flavorless. The chicken was not broasted it was merely fried, it had no flavor. The potatoes were baked from frozen, again, not broasted. The beans were cold and are from a can. They just add BBQ to them. The slaw is good. Not sure what they put in it. The service was friendly and fast.

Bob's Cafe is an institution in Sioux Falls. We found the broasted chicken tasty, but after all is said and done, it is fried chicken made well. The ribs were excellent and as advertised without the bone so you know it was tender and cooked a long time. The cole slaw is an acquired taste. we liked it, but our daughter thought it was too sweet. Potato fries and wedges are good, but nothing unique. Prices were moderate. There is really no seating except for maybe ten counter seats most occupied by people waiting for their takeout food. We took our food to Falls Park for a great place to eat Bob's fare.

  • R M.

I hardly ever go out for chicken because every time it's recommended, it falls short. This place is doing it right. Best chicken I've ever had out. Staff is fun, place is fun and food is great!

They have excellent chicken and burgers. I'm not a solid fan of their sides, but man... their meats are great!

Oh hell yeah!! Real people. Real food. We are in the 1%, and pick Bobs over anywhere else in SF!!

  • Dillon K.

This place was terrible the burger tasted like roast beef and the potatoe wedges were 2 potatoes chopped in half and then fried. The best part of my meal was the BBQ sauce.

    (1)
  • Michelle F.

They have the best food. The chicken and burgers are great. Love the beans and hash browns. They deserve to #1.

  • Tim C.

Very very nice people. That really makes the experience unique. We came when it wasn't too busy, and made nice conversation with our server as well as the other patrons. Since we were just traveling through, he gave us some tourist brochures of the sites to see and gave us a run down of what to expect from there on out. As far as the food, the broasted chicken is excellent. Nice, thick, crispy exterior with the juices trapped inside. It's hard to ask for much better than that. The ribs were fall-off-the bone tender and packed with flavor. I enjoyed my broasted potatoes (big wedges), and their baked beans were fantastic. Not to mention the deep fried mac n cheese. This shouldn't be something you eat on a regular basis, but it's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area and want to try some good comfort food. There is limited seating (13 seats total, I think?), but they do take-out as well. Friendly people and good food make for a memorable experience, and that's what you'll get at Bob's.

Our new modus operandi for road trips is to pull over and yelp what's around... We figured that the biggest city in SD would have something to offer. It doesn't... except this place. Holy tits this place is awesome. Two recommendations: 1) This chicken is phenomenal. You'll have better ribs in your life (maybe), but I'd put this chicken right up with the best I've had. 2) For the love of God get the hash browns. It was so good we got a burger to go. A road burger.

    (5)
  • Michelle M.

The food here is amazing! It feels a little cramped in there to sit and eat, which some people enjoy, but I'd rather order out.

Visiting from Chicago, this was a great local place! Tried the chicken, baked beans (amazing) and fried fish. Everything was excellent! I like the small bar seating area, very vintage.

So I traveled out to Sioux Falls for a new puppy...guess I need to update this profile picture. But needless to say after my visit to Walgreens and asking a local, "Where can I find some good local eats?" "Well there's Applebees and Hardiees down the street..." I quickly dismissed this young lady and drove the town. I came across this place and checked the yelp and it looked good. Once again Ladies and Gentleman, Yelp knows best! As I sat at the counter I asked the waitress for the special. Two pieces of chicken and 3 boneless ribs, hash browns and slaw. We can skip the ribs, they were ok, not bad just ok. The slaw was solid and the hash browns were a standout. But really kids, the chicken, they don't mess around. I've had a lot of broasted chicken and this place takes the cloucken prize! Salty, juicy and a lot of meat on that breast! Loved it!!!!!!!!! Service was great and the manager asked this CA guy to sign their guest book. One has to love the hospitality in a small town. So moral to this story, go to South Dakota, buy a puppy and eat at Bob's!

I can't believe we have never stopped here. We live 3 hours away but come through here often... I don't think there will be another time through sioux falls that we don't come here! Awesome chicken! Amazing Service... super friendly! Cute little diner! New favorite spot!

great chicken - tender and moist love the potato wedges and the caramel apple pie staff cares about the quality of their product extremely reasonable price for the quality and quantity one of the high points of this trip, looking forward to the next trip and will enjoy the gizzards

We visitied mid Feb 2014. If you have never experience a local greasy spoon place this is it, reminds me of small diners I ate at 40 years ago. Do yourself a favor and go visit. Chicken 4 Stars better then the grocery chains, just as good and the other chicken places in Sioux Falls. Okra 3 Stars decent could be better and portions were too small. Mac & Cheese squares 5 Stars some of the best I've had Coleslaw 5 Stars the best I've ever had. Originally being from the South I wish they had biscuits instead of dinner rolls, or maybe even cornbread!!! Overall experience 4 stars, the place definitely needs an upgrade. We only did carry out due to the size, place needs to be a lot bigger and needs a better ventilation system. I had to go back for the coleslaw they missed it the first time. We will be going back!.

Great tasting fried chicken. Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Also the fried gizzards were very tasty. A very small restaurant with about a dozen seats, but with friendly and efficient service.

Fresh food and great hospitality. Staff cares about your enjoyment of their food and service. Even provided military discount. Seating is limited, but wasn't a problem. Great lunch spot.

My partner and I read about this place in a road book and stopped in on our cross-country road trip. It was the best burger I've ever had. It was just a good, basic burger without any fancy pretzel rolls or tomatoes grown in a sanctuary or lettuce picked by kittens that so many burger places are known for. We loved it! Really nice people too. We even got our meal paid for by the nicest couple. It looks like a total hole-in-the-wall, but trust me... it's worth every fear you may have before entering.

Bob's Chicken is amazing. i love the chicken sandwich it is to die for. the mac and cheese bites are amazing, also the broasted potatoes are as good as they get, no place compares. its a small place but has the old dinner feel. best food ever!

  • Peggy R.

Best chicken, hash browns, corn. Everything we have had has been outstanding! When we a little scared when we got to the front door....the first time. We had to go back today and have more "broasted" chicken. We had some of the boneless ribs a couple of days ago and they tasted great but didn't look too appetizing. They cook the corn when it is in season right with the chicken. When we asked about the cooking method and they said it is fried under pressure. It is the best chicken we have ever had!! Not greasy, I think they cook it to order because it does take a few minutes but SO worth the wait. The homemade desserts are very good too!!

  • Ben W.

You have got to try the stuffed omelet and toast..... It is out of this world and filling, you will not have to eat the rest of the day.... Enjoy!

    (5)
  • Warren R.

Bob's cafe and carry out specializes in boneless ribs and broasted chicken. Both are excellent. But we also go there for breakfast. They have the best pancakes in town...Same for the biscuits and gravy. If you dine in its only counter service, and you see your meal prepared. Bob's has been in business since at least the early 60's, and even though the the restaurant changed hands a few years ago all the original charm stayed. Its almost a tourist attraction in its own right. Definitely a place to go.

  • Lance H.

Fam and I went to bob's today food was good as always. Half got breakfast which is great greasy spoon breakfast which is hard to find in sioux falls and other half got chicken (can't go there and not have at least one piece of chicken) n burgers (homemade fresh patty not premade frozen crap). Never been disappointed! This place could easily be a triple D's joint aka diners, dives n drive in.

  • Kevin R.

Great chicken. Great service. They had a guest book for me to sign and then they gave me a magnet. Beans and broasted potatoes: great sides.

  • S W.

Good food!! I would recommend ordering take out as the place was really smokey and this lessened the enjoyment of the excellent food. Service was a bit slow but this is to be expected at a popular take out greasy spoon. The deep fried mac and cheese was delicious, definitley worth clogging an artery or two. The chicken was good of course, as were the ribs and beans. Wish I'd had room to try a burger!

  • Michael B.

We stopped at Bob's on a cross-country road trip. It's definitely one of the places with character that we remember from the long drive. The diner is small and nothing fancy, but has good food and friendly service. My favorite part of the dining experience was when I ordered one lemonade to-go at the end of the meal and the waitress gave me two. "Why?" you ask. I asked the same question and she said "Refills are free, so I'll give you an extra one for the road." Such nice people. Give Bob's a try if you live in or are passing through Sioux Falls.

  • Andy C.

Bob's is the quintessential greasy spoon and a Sioux Falls landmark. When you walk in, you get the feeling that a whole lot hasn't changed there since Bob started it in 1944. Was there last weekend for breakfast and had the hashbrowns delight (hash browns with Philly cheese steak) or as Ben likes to call them "Philly browns." They were delicious as always. You can't go wrong here with the chicken, burgers, boneless ribs, Philly cheese steak for lunch or dinner. The sides are great too. It only seats 13 by my count, 11 at the counter and 2 at the back table and you might have to sight right next to someone else at the counter, so its not for shy folks. That said I've had some great conversation there with the other people and the staff. The food here has always been great as long as I can remember, and my Dad tells me it was good the 30 years before that.

Thirty years ago, I hit this place the week our high school basketball team was playing in the state tournaments, but hadn't really ever thought about the place. I was floored last week during a business visit to see the joint still there. I like to try to find local eateries; this one found me. I passed on the hotel's "free breakfast" to get a real breakfast. It was the best move to start the day. Steve M captured the spirit of the place in his review, so no repeats. I kept breakfast simple; eggs, bacon and toast. Topped it off with a decent cup of coffee. The guy next to me had a delicious looking pancake (the size of a large dinner plate) with an over-easy egg topper.

For YEARS I drove by this place thinking it was closed. Please don't make the same mistake I did. If you're in Sioux Falls, even only for a day, this has to be the location of one of your meals. Bob's is greasy American style diner that shouldn't be missed. I'm not sure of their hours, so it's best to go for lunch.

  • Derek C.

This place is awesome. We were on a family road trip and looking for food to have a picnic at the falls. We loved everything we got and the service. Best fried chicken we could remember and such friendly people.

  • Nancy H.

This place is great! Small little diner, clean, very well cared for. These people take pride in what they do. We had broasted chicken, some of the best I've had. We had a patty melt, beautifully cooked. The flat-top is out front so you get to watch your burger or melt or whatever being cooked. These people know how to cook. We had broasted potatoes and baked beans, both were excellent but the beans were some of the best I've had. The bathroom, although old was clean, always a plus.

Agree with other reviews. The veggie omelette is great. Seating is very limited, however.

  • Mike O.

Even in the post-Bob era, it's still Bob's! Ben and crew have kept the dream alive. Food? Must be good, but I'm not sure I've payed all that much attention. It's the sort of place you go just to be there for a little while.

    (5)
  • Steve M.

"It has a lot of character" doesn't even begin to describe this place. Eleven seats at the counter, and one table in the corner with room for two more. There were happilly two seats at the counter available when we walked in. Being in such close proximity to both the cook (Ben) behind the counter and the other patrons pretty much ensures conversation will ensue. Bob himself was one of the customers, and we were treated to his wry, albiet slightly curmudgeony wit. The food itself is pretty good, with the bacon being quite tasty. The cokes are served in mason jars. An overall quite fine dining experience, like another reviewer we were even asked to sign the guestbook. If you're in Sioux Falls and looking for a fun local place to grab an informal bite to eat, look no further. I wouldn't come in a hurry though. We came at noon and left at about one, so fast food it is not.

Worst service I have ever received from a business!! This was my first visit and the guy running the register started to yell at me because I could not hear what he was saying over the noise from the kitchen and with his back to me at the register. This is the first and last time I will ever go to this business. Keg Chicken is the only place I will go.

We were on vacation and stopped in at Bob's and we were not disappointed. The burgers were tasty with toasted buns and grilled onions. The hashbrowns and fries were both wonderful but the Mac and cheese squares were sublime! Don't be put off by the appearance of the place. It is very modest, small and the tiny counter is about the only place to sit. They get lots of delivery and carry out orders. Do not miss this one if you get a chance to stop by.

I've only been here once and it was two years ago, but since this place currently has no reviews, I feel compelled to contribute. We stopped by this place on the recommendation of another web site to try their burger. When we arrived, the place looked so tiny and dark that I was hesitant to go in. By the time I was done eating, I was VERY glad I ignored my initial feelings and went in anyway. The burger was tops! They do something that turns out to be very important to the final quality of the burger. They shape the beef into a ball first and place it on the griddle to start cooking. Then, using the spatula, they flatten the ball into a patty and finish the cooking. This turns out to be an important step because it sets up a structure in the patty that yields a great burger. Before I had left, I had a great conversation with the staff and even signed their guest book. Seating is limited to counter only and it won't hold many people. I'm not sure if I'll ever be in Sioux Falls again. But, if I am, I'm sure to try Bob's Cafe again.

Incredible. Small little shack on the side of the road labels it as a dive, but the food here is INCREDIBLE. Went with a party of five, we all tried burgers, chicken, and ribs and all of us were very satisfied. Great portion sizes for the price, too. EAT AT BOB'S!
